My favorite game to play as a kid was Risk

I have always enjoyed games of strategy, be they a board game, a computer game, or card game.  Any game that was built around the idea of out-maneuvering one’s opponent always was great fun for me.  What I loved about Risk, is that despite how good your tactics maybe, there was still that element of luck to each and ever encounter that could really turn the tide of the game, very much like a real battle being waged on a battlefield.  You had to play the best tactics you had, and try to hedge your bets in case the dice were against you.

The Omnivore’s Dilemma

Mass food production

One of the books that significantly change my life was the book The Omnivore’s Dilemma.  Although I had always tried to eat healthy, this book really put much of today’s modern food production into a new light for me.  The things we eat generally take a very long time to get from the field (or pasture, or ocean) to us, and this is a significant break from the path that has existed for most of human history.  As a result, I have begun cooking more for myself, so that I can use fresh, whole ingredients and I have a better idea of what I’m putting in my body.

Discovery Channel

I would rather watch something else, specifically, something on the Discovery Channel or the Science Channel (or a similar channel).  I find my TV watching is best spent watching something that will leave me with something.  So often I find that a lot of what is on television is just meant to help us pass time from one event to another, I feel like this is such a waste.  I like to use this time to try and learn something new about the world whether it’s related to science, engineering, history, religion, foreign cultures, technology, current events, etc.

iPad Display Item

If I had $500 dollars to spend at the mall, I would seriously consider buying one of the new iPad 2’s.  For a while I believed these products (tablets) were mostly useless, and while I’m necessarily convinced of their over usefulness, I have been swept up in their novelty.  The hook from the initial iPad commercials was that it was like holding the Internet in your hands, and let me tell you, this is absolutely true.  The power to surf the web from a comfortable sitting position on my couch is incredible.  I truly believe it is changing computing as we know it.
