Multimedia Mogul

I own several different kinds of computers because I could never be satisfied with just one – I have desktops to be the workhorse for my documents and music files. I keep several laptops around because they are useful for on the go, and to watch movies in other parts of my house, rather than the living room. The only computer I don’t own is a Mac, but I plan on investing in one of those soon because of the amount of graphics I use in my work. I really enjoy have several computers, and because I am particularly concerned about equipment failure, could never see myself having just one computer to serve all my needs. Although, I am sure, there will be a computer one day that can do all of things I need without worrying too much about equipment failure.
Workless Wonder

The question taunts me everyday – what could I be doing right now instead of working? I know I wouldn’t just be lazing around, that’s for sure. I would probably be enrolled in lots of craftsmen and artisan classes – I’ve always had an interest in making things for myself. I have also had my eye on traveling Europe with my family – I can passably speak several languages, and it’s high time my husband and my daughter got some culture and class across the ocean. On the homefront, I would spend a lot of time working on my property, and increase its value. I would probably still work a little bit – volunteer, maybe, and spend my time helping people, like working at a shelter or a soup kitchen. All I can say is that if I didn’t have to work, there still wouldn’t be enough time in the day to get anything done!
Motorcycle Memories

My earliest and fondest moment I have of my parents, prior to their divorce, is a hazy summer afternoon, just towards twilight. My father has just taken his motorcycle out of the garage, and it’s my first time riding. This was the late 1970s, so there’s no helmets, no safety restraints. I am maybe five or six years old, and all I want to do is take a ride with Daddy. My mother, with her extreme fear of motor vehicles in general, is reluctant to let me ride, but doesn’t say anything except, “Hold on tight.” And to my father, “You better not let anything happen to her!” I climb on, and grab Dad’s belt in the front. He tells me I won’t be able to hear anything, but I should look around, and if I run into trouble, smack him on the chest to get his attention. Then, swoosh! We’re off up and down the block, and I remember thinking, “This is the closest to flying I will ever be!” Sooner than I wanted it to, it ends and I am back with my Mom, safe. The light of the day and the freedom make me think of my parents in a most fond light.
Double Feature Night

My taste in movies sometimes leaves folks scratching their heads – I only watch movies to be entertained. I have absolutely no interest in movies that make you think or teach you a lesson. As a professional theatrical artist, I was taught to take apart movies and plays to get to the root of the meaning of the story. Now, after years of taking entertainment apart, I find I am only able to escape and enjoy entertainment when I fully realize it’s a dumb escapade. Among my favorite movies are the dumb comedies of the 1980s (like Police Acadamy) and the slew of movies generated from Saturday Night Live sketches (think Coneheads, Night at the Roxbury, etc). I have given my husband carte blanche to watch any movie he wants on Netflix without checking with me because I only really want to watch one out of the ten or so he may watch in a month. Call me crazy, but I just want to be amused, not schooled.
